Hey. So, a friend challenged me to do video posts, not text only. You know, show myself. So here I am. And then my friend died. It was totally unexpected. I knew she had some health issues—it wasn’t Covid—but anyway, it really gets you thinking how precious life is. The pandemic has reminded us of that. I think we’re all grieving some this year.
So, I’m kicking off a little series of videos about writing, and I’ll start by saying, hey, if you want to write, read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I did this course years ago—okay, this is like a 12-week self-guided course—and some of you might be thinking, been there, done that. But are you still doing it? Right?
So, I had drifted away from doing “morning pages,” which is one of her suggestions, and this year, thanks to a prompt from Bethany Hegedus at The Writing Barn, I’m doing the follow-up, The Listening Path, and I have returned to doing “morning pages.”
It’s only been a few days and already I’m in a new place with my writing. I’m full of positivity and possibility, and it’s a wonderful place to be as a writer. So I say all of this in honor of my friend, Alyson. Thank you for the nudge. Happy New Year. Happy writing.
Love seeing you and hearing your voice, and thanks for the nudge, Anne! I love new years and returning to good practices like morning pages. I also love your posts. Happy New Year, and I’m so sorry to hear that you lost your friend. What a wonderful way to honor her and her good suggestion.
Thank you, Meredith! My friend nudged me more than a year ago, and it’s taken me a while to build up my courage. Seeing others post videos (including yours with Rebeka) has helped me get over my hesitations. Ha! Happy New Year!
